In addition to colorful wooden balconies of Valletta, Malta is iconic for traditional fishing village Marsaxlokk and turquoise sea in Blue Lagoon. No surprise that this island has become one of Europe's most popular filming locations.

The Perfect travel destination after COVID-19. Malta offers many outdoor activities where we felt totally safe even after coronavirus. It has more hospital beds per resident than Finland, Ireland or the United Kingdom and its hospitals can accommodate travelers, if necessary.
Malta is the beach destination which means that the best time to go is July or August. The weather is hot enough to swim in the most popular Maltese bathing spot which is also known as a filming location of Troy starring Brad Pitt. The Blue Lagoon is located on the island of Comino. You can reach it by ferry from Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal. The sea in the Blue Lagoon has white sand and crystal clear aquamarine water. Get your snorkel gear on and go for a swim or relax on the top of your inflatable while sipping refreshing drink from pineapple. To enjoy this beach paradise without limits don't forget your water shoes and go early to avoid crowds.
Another must visit beach, reachable only by stairs, is Ghajn Tuffieha Bay with unusual orange color of the sand. For scenic sea views do a small hike at sunset from Ghajn Tuffieha Bay to neighboring Golden Bay Beach where was a loggerhead sea turtle nest at the time of our visit.

Marsaxlokk Fish Market takes place every Sunday in Marsaxlokk village. You should go as early as possible to catch the sunrise and see some of the last fishermen coming into bay. The ideal time is around 6:00 a.m. The fresh fish sells out fast and most of the fish stalls will be shutting down by late morning. Fishermen use Maltese traditional fishing boats called Luzzu. Boats are painted in bright colors with a protection symbol, pair of eyes of Osiris. The primary function of the eyes is to scare-off great-white sharks which could overturn the boat.

If Malta is known for one thing, it's its iconic enclosed colorful wooden balconies. Wander the narrow streets of capital city Valletta and admire these architectural gems on most buildings that date back to late Baroque. Make sure to step inside St. John’s Co-Cathedral which is one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in the world.
Roman Catholicism has such strong influence in Malta that divorces were not allowed until 2011. Beside 365 churches, one for each day of the year, Malta has also a rich history. The Saluting Battery is an attraction where history is brought to life daily, a cannon is fired every day. It is located in Upper Barrakka Gardens where you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the Grand Harbour and its surrounding fortified towns: Birgu (Vittoriosa), Isla (Senglea) and Bormla (Cospicua). To explore all of
Three Cities take a self drive tour with Rolling Geeks from their office in Birgu (Vittoriosa) Waterfront. You have to make a reservation ahead on their website. You will get a smart electric golf buggy for up to four people with pre-programmed GPS showing you where to go and what to look at when you’re there. Enjoy the sights while the car tells you about them in English. The best is the freedom to stop whenever you want to. Take a picnic basket for a small fee and have fun!

Malta has become one of Europe's most popular filming locations. You may have seen it in The Da Vinci Code starring Tom Hanks, Game of Thrones, Gladiator, Swept Away starring Madonna, Troy, By the Sea starring Angelina Jolie, Assassin's Creed, The Count of Monte Cristo, etc.
Many visitors do a Game of Thrones film tour which includes Mdina. A medieval walled town referred to as the Silent City. There are limited cars that can enter to town, mostly owned by the approximately 300 residents. You will feel transported back centuries
upon crossing through its Mdina Gate. Perfect area for all history lovers. If you are searching for something family-friendly head over to Popeye Village, which is the film set of the 1980 musical Popeye. Today, it is a thematic fun park with water trampolines, pools, boat rides and spinach on the menu. You don't have to enter the park to see the village and Anchor Bay from the cliff Popeye Village of Viewpoint. What I found to be interesting is that the village is wooden and Malta doesn't have any forests so to construct it they had to import wood all the way from Canada.

We didn't feel comfortable with an idea of renting a car because the Maltese drive on the left side of the road so during our whole stay we used taxis as a way of transportation. I downloaded eCabs app where you type your destination and it will show you the price and waiting time for the taxi right away. I have to say that the taxis aren't the cheapest, I picked this option only because of social distancing during coronavirus.
Malta is very small and has very convenient bus system so most of travelers use buses. We stayed in Mr. Todd hotel which is only two minutes walk away from the bus stop, ferries and the Sliema seafront full of outdoor restaurants. Meat lovers should try Malta's national dish, rabbit stew. Nearby is instagramable spot Roman Baths Sliema. The Baths are natural pools carved from the rocks in the sea dated back to the Victorian Era. Nowadays they added ladders for additional safety. Waves brought in Decorator crabs so we spent some time by investigating the sea life. They camouflage themselves by sticking mostly sedentary animals and plants to their bodies as protection against predators.
Next to The Baths is a Surfside Beach Club for a light snack or drink. Alcohol is allowed to drink from 17 year old. Malta is well known for its lively nightlife, especially in Paceville in St. Julian’s. Many young people come to Malta for language courses since locals speak more English than Maltese language. Malta was a British colony for 150 years what is visible in architectural sites.
